Part of the mission of OVS is to provide information, support and resources to our funded programs. Our goal is to do everything we can to ensure that programs are available across the State to provide critical services to crime victims. To that end, when OVS issued award letters for the 2019-2022 Victim of Crime Act (VOCA) Grant Program, we noted that while funding for the 3-year grant period would be guaranteed pending successful contract negotiations, the level of federal VOCA funds in the future were unclear and we were likely to see significant reductions. Alerting programs to these funding issues was important so that you have the time to plan for a successful future assisting victims of crime across New York State. There continue to be no large deposits for the fund on the horizon and therefore all of us must plan responsibly and realistically. With this in mind we are committed to providing you with tools to assist you in planning for the future success of your program. As part of our Resilience Webinar Series we will be hosting multiple webinars focusing on sustainability in the coming months. The first of these webinars, Financial Sustainability for Victim Assistance Programs, will be held on Tuesday, April 28 at 10:00 a.m. In this 75-minute webinar, we will review the current financial landscape, as well as possible changes in the coming years. The webinar will help participants:
Understand the components and complexities of financial sustainability
Assess their program's risk based on current funding and staffing models
Begin to explore the development of a long-term sustainability plan, including:
Learning about options for saving costs
Understanding the importance of evaluating board and staff readiness for resource development
We understand that your programs are under unique forms of stress during this time, and OVS is here to help during this difficult time and beyond. In a changing landscape, readiness is critical, and this webinar series aims to provide the tools you need for long-term success.
