Two-Part Grant Writing Webinar
The Office of Victim Services Advisory Council is hosting a two-part webinar on grant writing on 8/21 and 8/22 from 9:30am -11:30am. Offered through OVS’s TTARP, this program was designed for smaller Victim Assistance Programs, but all VAP staff who participate in grant writing and development may attend.

Alison Diéguez, Program Director at the CUNY Institute for State and Local Governance, will facilitate the series.
Alison Diéguez is a Program Director who oversees the Institute’s work on Gender Based Violence and Trauma. She has over 18 years of experience in the fields of trauma, gender based violence and community violence. Prior to her work at ISLG, she was the Director of Planning and Community Resilience at the Center for Court Innovation Red Hook Community Justice Center where she designed, launched, and managed several court- and community-based programs and led broader efforts in strategic planning. She’s also worked within the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene’s Bureau of Mental Health and served as a Clinical Forensic Specialist at Safe Horizon’s Brooklyn Child Advocacy Center. Ms. Diéguez holds a B.A. from Purchase College at SUNY and an M.S.S.W. from Columbia University School of Social Work.

Grant Writing Part 1: Fundamentals
Presenters will review the fundamentals of responding to requests for proposals (RFPs): RFP life cycles, types of RFPs (federal, state, foundation, corporate, etc.), and strategies for finding and selecting RFPs. Participants will complete a short survey on their “burning questions” for Grant Writing, which will inform the details of Part 2.

Grant Writing Part 2: Templates and Examples
Presenters will present a framework for developing proposals. The framework will center organizational sustainability, programmatic success, effective storytelling, and positive scoring. Presenters will then present example proposals, varying in quality and type. Participants will discuss and workshop the example proposals.
